A reflection by Teresa Davis, MBA, BSN, RN, OCN – Clinical Liaison
Oncology nursing was never part of my original plan. I was drawn into it by a preceptor at a previous hospital, not long after losing my grandfather to prostate cancer. At the time, I couldn’t imagine working with terminally ill patients. I believed oncology would be filled with nothing but sadness—but I was completely wrong.
What I found instead was a field rooted in strength, faith, and profound human connection. Oncology nursing is spiritual, inspirational, and one of the most humbling experiences of my life.
For over 30 years, I have had the privilege of serving patients and their families—offering not just care, but hope. What has kept me here is the unwavering belief that science continues to evolve, research continues to advance, and patients are living longer, more fulfilling lives.
Oncology nursing isn’t just about treating illness—it’s about walking alongside people in some of their most vulnerable moments and helping them find light, even in uncertainty.
