By Brittany Cornfoot, RN, Reimagine Care
After more than a decade as an oncology nurse, I’ve witnessed the many highs and lows that come with a cancer diagnosis. I’ve educated patients on chemotherapy, walked with families through end-of-life care, and triaged countless symptoms. But no matter what role I was in—whether at the bedside or coordinating care behind the scenes—what always mattered most to me was the human connection.
That’s what led me to Reimagine Care.
Here, I’ve found a way to bring everything I’ve learned in traditional clinical settings into a virtual environment. One that puts patients first, while still delivering the high-touch care they need. And perhaps most importantly, it allows them to receive that care from the comfort of their home.
Why I Chose Nursing and Why Oncology Chose Me
I didn’t just want to be a nurse. I felt called to it. There’s something incredibly meaningful about being present for people in their most vulnerable moments and having them trust you to help guide them through.
Oncology nursing, in particular, is about so much more than medications and monitoring. It’s about compassion, communication, and continuity. I’ve always wanted to be in a role where I could both support and empower people. That’s exactly what nursing allows me to do every day.
A Day in the Life at Reimagine Care
Each day, I connect with patients virtually to provide symptom management and support. We proactively monitor for signs of distress, side effects, or complications, often before they escalate. That means fewer emergency room visits and more peace of mind.
I spend a lot of time educating patients about their treatment plans, answering questions, and working closely with caregivers to help manage what’s happening at home. Even though we’re not physically in the same room, the trust we build is just as strong. Sometimes it is even stronger.
It’s rewarding to hear patients say they feel seen and heard, even through a screen. They’re more comfortable, less anxious, and deeply grateful that they can receive care without leaving their home.
What Patients Face and How We Make It Easier
Cancer care can be incredibly overwhelming. Patients are often juggling multiple appointments, long drives, complicated information, and inconsistent communication between providers. Add treatment side effects to the mix, and the entire experience becomes exhausting physically, mentally, and emotionally.
But when Reimagine Care steps in, the story changes. We bring the care to them remotely, but still personally. Suddenly, the burden is lighter. Care is continuous, communication is streamlined, and patients feel supported every step of the way.
That shift from fragmented to seamless, from stressful to supportive, is what makes our model so powerful.
Closing Thoughts
Virtual care is not about replacing the human element of healthcare. It is about enhancing it. It makes care more accessible, more responsive, and more compassionate. At Reimagine Care, we are showing that it’s possible to provide exceptional cancer care without requiring patients to sacrifice comfort or convenience.
And as a nurse, there is nothing more fulfilling than being part of that change.
